The Department of Political Science at Tsinghua University, founded in 1926, was among the earliest ones in China. Many well-known scholars, such as Qian Duansheng, Xiao Gongquan and Zhang Xiruo, were faculty members of the Department, and Zhang Xiruo was the chair of it. In the nation-wide reorganization of universities and colleges in 1952, the discipline of political science at Tsinghua was merged into other universities. After 1978, political science, as a discipline, has been re-developed at Tsinghua University. In 1990, Tsinghua University, among the earliest ones, was authorized by the Education Ministry to run the master degree program of “Marxist Theory and Ideological & Political Education”, and then in 1996, it was authorized by run a doctor program in this discipline. Currently, the faculty members are in their prime time, brisk and enthusiastic, forming a great research and teaching team. They have an extensive international experience: many of them have been visiting scholars to sister universities in other countries, and some of them received their Ph.D. from internationally-renowned universities. The research projects the faculty is doing, many of which are top-notch projects in the country, outnumber any philosophy departments in Chinese universities. The research projects completed in the department have high quality and have produced a wide influence both at home and abroad.
