2000      
Prof. Shushan Cai, Director of the Division of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts of Tsinghua University, was commissioned to take charge  of the initiative work for cognitive science at Tsinghua University. The Preparatory Committee is composed of leading scholars from the School of Humanity and Social Sciences, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Medical Science of Tsinghua University, Institute of Psychology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Institute of Language of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The committee members are among the current research people at the Center for Psychology and Cognitive Science.
2002
The First National Conference of Cognitive Science in China was held at Tsinghua University, Beijing.
2003
The research team led by Academician Lin Chen, Prof. Shushan Cai, and Prof. Xueqin Li from Tsinghua University submitted a proposal for holding the Xiangshan Conference of Cognitive Science (the highest-level for academic meetings in China) to the office of Xiangshan Conference of Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The four areas of study, “Language, Logic and Cognition”, “Psychology, Behavior, and Cognition”, “Culture, Evolution, and Cognition”, and “Brain, Computer, and Cognition”, were determined as the main fields of cognitive science research at Tsinghua University. 
2004
The research team led by Prof. Shushan Cai submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Education for establishing the Center for Cognitive Science at Tsinghua University. The project was included in the national plan of constructing Innovative Philosophy and Social Science Research Bases in the second round of “985 Engineering” by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance. In October 2004, the proposal successfully passed the evaluation of the Ministry of Education and the Center for Cognitive Science of Tsinghua University was formally established.
2006
Based on the Center for Cognitive Science of Tsinghua University, the Center for Psychology and Cognitive Science was set up in Feb. 2006 with an aim to revive Psychology and develop cognitive science at Tsinghua University. The Center is affiliated to the School of Humanity and Social Sciences of Tsinghua University.

Conduct Tsinghua-featured psychological research  and prepare for the establishment of the Department of Psychology at Tsinghua University.
